Appointment
of Authorised Examiner (AE)
An Authorised Examiner is an individual, person in partnership
or company meeting requirements (premises, equipment,
personnel and good repute) to carry out MOT testing.

Becoming
a Nominated Tester (NT)
This section includes the criteria an employee needs
to meet to become a tester, training requirements and
general information.
Premises
To become a Vehicle Test Station (VTS), all premises
must meet the legal requirements laid out in this section.
Acceptable
Equipment
All prospective VTS must equip their garages with equipment
that the Vehicle & Operator Services Agency (VOSA)
has deemed acceptable. The latest up-to-date acceptable

Special Notices are memos that VOSA use to communicate
changes within the scheme to VTS.
Maintaining
Testing Standards
To ensure all test stations are carrying out tests to
the required standard, VOSA carry out various activities
to monitor test standards. Failure to adhere to these
standards can result in:
Withdrawl
Information on the withdrawal of an Authorised Examiner,
through disciplinary action by VOSA.
Disciplinary
Action
This section includes information on disciplinary action
that VOSA may take upon AEs and NTs. Disciplinary
action can arise from non-compliance with the testing
standards and procedures laid down in the MOT Testing
Guide.
